A red tractor on a paved street past the Town Centre plaza, lined with lamp posts and trees.

The game

Your tractor. Your town. Your story.

Acre by Acre is a world builder where your tractor is your character. Grow crops, raise livestock, run businesses and found a town, alone or with friends, in a world that keeps working while you’re away.

  • 2islands, one hand-painted world
  • 62kinds of building to place
  • 17professions to learn
  • 11crops, counting grapes
  • 48real minutes in a game day
  • 32farmers at once on the official server
Ripe wheat on an arable farm, with red and teal tractors in the field beside a timber farmhouse.

Farm life

Plant in season. Harvest on time.

Run a small, standard or large arable farm, or tend a vineyard. Pick a crop, wait for its months to come round, then watch the field grow for six months, from seedlings to a full head.

You have two months to bring the harvest in before it spoils. Fertiliser doubles the yield, and a large farm brings in up to 3,000 at a time.

Ranches and barns spread across open grassland, cattle in their pens, with tractors parked outside and mountains beyond.

Ranch life

Cattle, chickens and a full hay barn.

A ranch raises cattle and chickens and gathers eggs and fertiliser every month, paid from its owner’s funds. Feed it hay and its output doubles.

Cure alfalfa into hay at the Hay Barn, and send livestock to the Butcher for beef, leather and poultry.

A town seen from above: a clock-towered Town Centre on its square, tree-lined streets, houses and businesses, with tractors on the roads and stone peaks on the horizon.

City life

Found a town and fill its blocks.

Plant a Town Center to found a town: 24 building blocks around a civic square. Set its trade tax anywhere from 0 to 8 percent, and give a month’s notice before you raise it. Members’ workshops run 1.4 times faster inside the town.

Buy, rent and sell property, follow the Town News board for listings and sales, and fill export orders at the Export/Import Office, where new money comes into the world.

Teal, pink and red tractors driving along a wide sandy beach beside turquoise water, with palms on the shore ahead.

Coast life

Sand under the tyres.

A band of palms runs along the green island’s coast, with wide beaches facing the channel. Tractors wade through the shallows at half speed. Watch your air in deep water.

Fit a Pontoon Kit and open water becomes a road.

Desert life

Across the channel, the desert island.

The eastern island is all sand, scrub and rock: mesas and buttes, saguaros, Joshua trees, agaves and tumbleweed.

It is also the only place in the world where you can mine rare earth.

Industry

From a stack of logs to a fleet of trucks

Sixty-two kinds of building link into supply chains. Haul raw goods to the mill, the smelter or the factory, deliver between your own businesses with trucks you built, and sell the finished goods abroad.

Build it yourself

Placing a building pays a down payment. Then the materials have to reach the site, and you can haul them there yourself.

Roads and deliveries

Grade your own roads and lay fences with the right equipment. Trucks you build carry goods between your businesses.

Sheckles and denari

A hundred denari to the sheckle. New money only enters the world through export orders, so every coin has a story.

Professions

Learn a trade. Build what it unlocks.

Seventeen professions are taught at the School, the Trades School and the University. In multiplayer each farmer holds two at a time; anyone may own any building, but only a trained hand can place it and run it.

Look after yourself

Fuel, food, drink and a roof.

Keep an eye on your dials. A full tank crosses the map about twice; meals and drinks keep you going; and a farmer sleeping under their own roof eats from the larder and heals twice as fast.

Fuel

Burns by the mile. Run dry and you crawl along at half speed until you find a can.

Food and drink

Tavern drinks restore more and give a five-minute boost to speed and carrying.

Shelter

Log out under a roof and your needs drain slowly. Out in the open, you won’t last long.

Real stakes

A farmer who dies loses their money, goods and professions, and their property goes back on the market.

Days, seasons and weather

A world on its own clock.

A game day lasts 48 real minutes and a month lasts a real day, so a whole year passes in twelve. Every world shares the same calendar.

  • Street lamps come on at half past six, and tractor headlights at dusk.
  • Weather arrives in fronts: clear, overcast, light rain and heavy rain with thunder and lightning.
  • Each crop has its planting months. Miss them and you wait for next year.
  • Your businesses keep working while you’re away, within their funds, supplies and storage.
At the tavern

Four arcade games

Every Tavern has an arcade. It’s just for fun: the games pay out no cash or items.

  • Lantern PairsA memory game with lantern cards.
  • Harvest HavocFive frantic minutes of bullet-heaven action, with the Harvest King to beat.
  • Last CastFishing, with a catch book of six species.
  • Lantern SolitairePatience, by lamplight.
